Tamariki Alive Kids Club

Tamariki alive Kids’ Club is a unisex club that caters for the age group of 8 to 12 year olds.

Our aim is to provide the children with a club that they feel they belong to and have ownership of. Club Leaders develop genuine, trusting relationships with the children and support them through the stages of their lives, both present and in the future.

Tamariki Alive Kids’ Club aims to equip the tamariki (children) with life skills that they can carry over into their everyday lives. We take a holistic approach promoting emotional, physical, mental and spiritual health.

Tamariki Alive Kids’ Club nights are held every Friday night during the school term, there is no Tamariki Alive during the school holidays. A typical club night includes games and activities that support teachings; teaching could include life skills, values, social skills, spiritual growth. Ropu tima - during this time children are separated into different age groups to participate in age appropriate activities and teaching. Ropu Tima is essential as this is the time that leaders foster and maintain genuine relationships with the children. Waiata (song) and dance are also a part of Tamariki Alive Kids’ Club due to the fact that it is a powerful medium to teach values to the tamariki. Supper - the children have a healthy meal before they are taken home. Tamariki Alive Leaders transport children to and from the Tamariki Alive Club.

Tamariki Alive is not restricted to Friday nights as leaders are expected to interact with the children in their Ropu (group) away from a Friday club night. Interaction could include sleepovers, meals, camping or small excursions.

A long-term goal for Tamariki Alive Kids’ Club is to eventually get alongside the families of the children to support them and to provide help where it may be needed.
